Lincolnwood residents can apply for or renew library cards at the Circulation Desk. Please bring a valid, state issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID with name, photo, and current address) or one photo ID and one document with name and current address. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for applicants under 16. Cards are valid for three years.
Loan Periods and Limits
- Audiobooks, Books, CDs, Kindles, and Magazines — 3 weeks
- DVDs and Blu-rays — 2 weeks
- Video Games — 2 weeks
- New Umbrellas — 3 weeks, and/or buy one for $10.00
Reciprocal borrowers from outside the RAILS (Reaching Across Illinois Library System) are allowed up to three items per card holder per visit.
Email notices — sign up to be notified when your items are ready for pick up or when your checkouts are overdue.
If there are no holds on an item, you may renew it up to two times. Renew your items by going to My Account, by bringing items to to the circulation desk, or by calling the library during regular business hours.
- Audiobooks, Books, CDs, and Magazines — 10¢ per day
- DVDs, Blu-rays, Kindles, and Video Games — $1.00 per day
- There is a maximum fine of $7.00 per book and $10.00 per DVD or Video Game
- Interlibrary Loan material fees are collected based on the owning library’s policy
- Umbrellas — 10¢ per day
To pay your fines with a credit/debit card, log in to My Account, click the Fines tab, and enter the required information.
If you lose an item, you will be charged the cost of a replacement.
Cardholders of libraries within Illinois can register their card for reciprocal borrowing privileges. Please bring the ‘home’ library card and valid state issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID with name, photo, and current address) or one photo ID and one document with name and current address to the Circulation Desk. Cards from libraries outside the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) Consortium will need to be re-registered every three years.
Corporate cards are available to businesses, institutions, churches and similar organizations located in Lincolnwood. A card will be issued to the owner or manager (one card per organization) who is responsible for any fines or fees that may accrue. Corporate cards can only be used at the Lincolnwood Library for business related materials. These cards must be renewed annually.

The Lincolnwood Public Library makes every effort to protect your privacy by keeping your library records confidential. You should be aware, however, that under federal legislation commonly known as the U.S. Patriot Act (public law 107-56) law enforcement officials can require the library to provide information about your use of the library and library resources, including library computers. The act also prohibits the library from informing you that your library records have been requested and/or released. Questions and/or comments about the Act may be directed to your legislators.
